Scouting locations for Ghosts of Mandurah Filmmaking After Dark workshop

Tonight (Friday 18 September 2026) I’m heading into the shadows with a group of young filmmakers for Ghosts of Mandurah: Filmmaking After Dark, so I’ve been out checking some of the locations we’ll be using for the workshop.

The whole idea behind the workshop is pretty simple: take familiar places around Mandurah and look at them differently. A boardwalk, pathway or quiet corner can suddenly become a creepy location when you start thinking about framing, lighting, sound and what might be hiding just outside the shot.

The workshop gives young people aged 12–17 three hours to work in teams and create their own 60–90 second found-footage horror film using their mobile phones. I’ll be mentoring them through storytelling, cinematography, suspense, sound and editing before we finish with a screening of what they’ve created.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what they come up with. The locations might be familiar, but after dark, I’m hoping they’ll see Mandurah in a completely different way.

Ghosts of Mandurah: Filmmaking After Dark is part of the Mandurah Arts Festival 2026 and is designed for young aspiring filmmakers, writers, content creators and storytellers.
