About Me

Mark Regan is an international award-winning writer, director and producer based in regional Western Australia.

Mark creates psychologically driven genre films that examine how trauma, identity, mental health, family relationships, and social expectations shape human behaviour.

Since 2019, Mark has written and directed six narrative short films that have screened at film festivals throughout Australia and internationally, earning multiple awards and nominations.

His recent drama Mother's Tongue continued this success with selections across the international festival circuit, while his earlier films The Memory and Harold the Plumber received numerous festival awards and recognition. Alongside his narrative work, Mark has produced six short-form documentaries and worked across a range of productions as a director, producer and cinematographer.

Mark has also completed original feature film screenplays, marking the next stage of his career as he transitions into feature filmmaking. His work is grounded in the belief that powerful stories should entertain first while encouraging audiences to reflect on their own assumptions, fears and beliefs.

A graduate of Edith Cowan University with a Bachelor of Communications (Media Studies), Mark taught film and digital media at Murdoch Institute of Technology for fifteen years, helping develop the next generation of visual storytellers.

Mark co-hosted the podcast Space Brains for five years which reviewed Science Fiction films fortnightly and has curated the Space Brains Sci-Fi Film Festival in 2022 and 2023. The purpose of Space Brains was to champion independent genre cinema and building filmmaking communities in regional Western Australia.

Working from Mandurah, Mark continues to develop distinctive Australian genre stories with the ambition of directing feature films that resonate with audiences both nationally and internationally.
