Alien Echo recognised with a Special Mention at Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival

I’m pleased to announce that my sci-fi short film Alien Echo has been awarded a Special Mention by the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival.

The festival received a vast number of submissions and described Alien Echo as “particularly unique”, which is fantastic recognition for a film that I wanted to make a little differently.

Alien Echo is a sci-fi drama that explores isolation, addiction and obsession through the story of a scientist who becomes consumed by the search for an unexplained alien signal. Making the film involved a lot of work across writing, filming, editing, sound, colour grading and music, so seeing it recognised as it begins its festival journey is incredibly rewarding.

The festival is providing a Special Mention laurel and hopes it will help Alien Echo navigate the festival landscape going forward. They have also expressed their commitment to bringing new Australian filmmaking talent and vision to audiences.

For an independent filmmaker, recognition like this is important. Festivals provide an opportunity for films to find audiences, connect with other filmmakers and, hopefully, open the door to the next project.

So, another laurel for Alien Echo, another festival added to the journey and another reason to keep making films.
