Mother’s Tongue at Rock the Boat Film Festival

Mother’s Tongue was selected and screened at the Rock the Boat Film Festival among other great short films.

After the screening, I was invited up to speak about my film with my two leading actors.

This was my speech to the crowd:

“My name is Mark Regan and Mother's Tongue was my short film. I have my two lovely leading ladies here as well, Lucy - Julz Cukrov and Mother - Celia Janes.

I've been making films for about 20 years and completely in the independent film sector, just making the films that I want to make. This film was quite special to me. I'm a writer and a director, so everything I do I write as well. But this story was quite special to me because it is about being an artist, which I see myself, and along that journey you do face those critics, and they might be a mentor, they might be a teacher, they might be a parent or a family member, or they might be just someone that randomly comes up and tells you something nasty about your artwork. And so I wanted to express that through a short story, and Mother's Tongue sort of came to me and was born.

And as I said before, I got to work with these awesome actors, which really delivered the vision I had in my head.

So thank you for coming tonight and watching the film as well. Really appreciate that.”

Thanks to Rock the Boat Film Festival.
