How sound design shapes story in my short film

Super big edit suite day on the Sunday to do the sound design for Alien Echo.

And it is in the can, so to speak, with the sound design. It is so important to get the alien signals right and my vision of the static. It was a slog, but we got there.

Now we are looking at the sound design as really complete. By that I mean ambient sound effects and dialogue are all mixed into a beautiful output and I love that.

It is funny how the film was picture locked, meaning no more edits, but then you add sound design. Effects and ambience and surround sound and mixing and creating a full sound space, and it adds so much more realism and symbolism to the film.

Sound design really makes the story come alive. It pulls the audience in and gives weight to every moment.

For me, sound is so important.

There is one more part to go, the music, which is so important for the narrative and the symbolism of it all.

But I am really happy that this has gotten to this stage. Huge day in the edit suite today. Well done to me. I am happy.

Let us move on to the next creative phase, which is the music editing.
